Russian Forces 10 Days From Running Out Of Resources: Ex US Commander
A former top US military commander has said Russian forces are about ten days away from running out of resources, including fuel and ammunition.
Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, former commanding general of the United States Army Europe, told an American TV news programme Russian forces went after the training centre in Yavoriv ‘to demonstrate they could reach lines of communication that bring supplies and support from Poland to Ukraine’.
“But also I think to maybe go after the logistics buildup that’s happening there… I don’t think we should overreact to this,” Lieutenant General Hodges told The Faulkner Focus.
It has been nearly three weeks since Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the ‘special military operation’ that has snowballed into an armed conflict that has raised fears of nuclear strikes and World War III.
Despite Moscow and Kyiv holding four rounds of peace talks to find an end to the fighting, Russia continues to bombard cities across Ukraine.
However, according to a United States defence official, nearly all of the Russian offensives have been stalled with little progress made over the weekend. Over 900 missiles have been launched by Russia but Ukraine’s airspace is still contested, the official added.
On Tuesday at least three powerful explosions were reported in the centre of Kyiv, according to news agency AFP. However, the cause of the explosions was not immediately known.
Almost 2.8 million people have left the war-ravaged country, according to the United Nations, while 600 have died. But the actual number of deaths in war could be much higher.
On Tuesday, the fifth round of talks between Ukraine and Russia will be held, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said late Monday.
