For the greater part of 2020-2021, most of us were homebound due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant lockdowns. Domestic and international travels came to a halt, and changes in the workplace involved a lot of work-from-home scenarios. As dreary as it was, the entire exercise however proved one thing: a lot of work can be done from home; well, any place with a good internet connectivity for that matter.

Germany

Fancy working in Deutschland! Those looking to work in Germany as digital nomads can apply for a German Freelance Visa. Yes, that’s what the digital nomad visa is in Germany. This visa will let you work with startups, small businesses and individuals on a contract basis.

Greece

With the Digital Nomad Visa, any third-party national (non-EU, EEA and Switzerland), can live and work in Greece as a remote worker for up to a year, and can apply for an extension if one wishes to. If one wishes to stay longer, they can also apply for a Digital Nomad Residence Permit.

Iceland

In Iceland, it is called the Iceland Remote Worker visa, and it was introduced in October 2020. The visa is also a temporary residence permit. The visa, however, does not allow you to look for a job in Iceland, for that there is a separate work visa.

Indonesia

The Digital Nomad Visa will allow you to live in Indonesia for up to five years. That’s not all; remote workers will also be staying tax-free. Bali sounds unbelievably close now, doesn’t it?

Mauritius

Mauritius Digital Nomad Visa or the Mauritius Premium Travel Visa lets you stay and work remotely from the beautiful island nation for a year, after which it can be renewed. The visa also allows you multiple entry. If you are staying in Mauritius for more than six months, you automatically become a tax-paying resident.

Portugal

In Portugal it is called a D7 Passive Income visa. To be eligible for this visa, you will need to give proof of a sufficient income and its source. The visa allows you a year-long stay and if you wish to, you may extend it for another two years. You can extend up to only two years at a time.

The Bahamas

For the Bahamas, it is the Bahamas Digital Nomad Visa, and it is valid for a year. To get this visa all you need to show is that you are a digital nomad and can financially support yourself in the country. With the visa, you will be able to work in the country remotely.

Norway

The Svalbard Digital Nomad visa is probably the greatest thing ever. The visa is valid for a lifetime. If that is not amazing, then what is? Though to apply for the visa, you need to meet certain criterias as a freelancer. Do note, you’ll need to show proof of being able to support yourself in Norway

Spain

The Spain Digital Nomad Visa will allow foreign workers who are employed with non-Spanish companies, freelancers, and basically anyone who can work remotely. Once you have the visa and are in Spain, you will need to apply for a residence permit within 30 days of staying in Spain. However, it is yet to be finalised but once it materialises, it will be valid for a year, after which it can be renewed for two years at a time.

Czech Republic

In Czech Republic, it is called a Freelance Visa or the Zivno Visa. The visa is perfect for freelancers and is valid for a year. You can extend it for another two years if you wish to. However, to get the visa, one needs to show that you intend to stay for more than three months.
