Anti-Ageing Dermal Fillers Are Not The Same As Botox. Experts Debunk Myths

Many people aren’t even aware of the distinction between dermal fillers and botox where a majority of people mistakenly believe that any skin-enhancing injection is botox, although both have entirely different objectives.

Dermal fillers are used by cosmetic surgeons to help the skin recover from the harmful effects of makeup, minimise scar appearance and add glow, shine and healthier appearance to the skin.

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Debeshi, Clinical Cosmetic and Aesthetic Expert and Founder of Lueur Aesthetics, busted the following myths about dermal fillers –

Myth 1: Filler injections are painful

Dermal fillers used on the face are combined with a numbing agent to alleviate any discomfort. Prior fillers numbing topical cream is also used to make the procedure as painless as possible.

Myth 2: Fillers always look fake and plastic

People frequently believe that fillers have the same effect as drastic cosmetic surgery, which makes one look fake and plastic. The great thing about dermal fillers is that they can naturally revitalize your skin without the invasive risks or unnatural results of surgery, and they also have the added benefit of being reversible for facial fillers.

Myth 3: Fillers are irreversible

The permanent alteration of the face, which cannot be undone, is one of the risks that many people think facial fillers pose. It’s not a surgical procedure, and depending on the fillers used, it lasts for about 1-2 years.

Myth 4: There will be significant bruising and downtime after filler injection

After receiving facial fillers, there is a brief period of recovery. There might be a tiny amount of swelling or bruising, which you can cover up with foundation or treat with a cool compress. There is no downtime.

Myth 5: You have to get it done frequently, more and more every time or the face will sag.

Your skin will return to its original state after the fillers have disintegrated, leaving you with the same appearance as before.

Adding to the list, Dr Prerna Sikka, Dermatologist and Cosmetologist at Dr. Karishma’s Aesthetics, shared facts to debunk the myths surrounding dermal fillers –

Myth 1: Dermal fillers will not look natural

It is inevitable to have your procedure done only with an expert hand of cosmetologists. Dermal fillers are products used as a substitute for the amount of lost fat tissue as we age. Dermal fillers like Juvéderm contain water-loving molecules, i.e., a modified form of hyaluronic acid, which can best help you reach your rejuvenation goal. You will achieve rejuvenated and natural outcomes if the treatment is done with care and a proper aesthetic plan.

Myth 2: It will be painful

It is a minimal invasive followed by topical anesthetics applied on the injection sites. However, you will feel little or no pain.

Myth 3: Dermal fillers must often be added and repeated

Fillers can be repeated once in 10-12 months. Still, the frequency of maintenance depends on several factors, such as the used fillers, the location where the filler is applied and the person’s activity level.

Myth 4: No difference is seen before and after the filler application

Although the results may be subtle, some results are very pronounced. The differences can be decided based on the amount of fillers applied in the treatment areas.

Myth 5: Dermal fillers can replace surgical facelifts; the result is the same

Fillers can give you volume and raised look but cannot replace surgical facelifts. A facelift works on your deeper tissue by removing the excess of loosened skin.

Myth 6: The filler will stretch out the skin

If your filler is administered by a licensed provider using a reputable product, your skin laxity should remain unchanged.
