“Viraasat” An Art Event Organised By Artist Seema Sethi
This art event organised by artist Seema Sethi, her first ever solo show, is being held at Kalamkaar Gallery, First Floor, Bikaner House, New Delhi from 26th March to 1st April 2023.
Seema Sethi’s signature creations are displayed here which she has created over a span of two decades.
Seema’s illustrious career started as a lecturer at Jai Hind College, Mumbai in 1987. When she settled in New Delhi in 1989, she taught as PGT Economics to class XIIth students and went on to serve as the Vice Principal at The Banyan Tree School in 1995.
Since 1999, she ventured into the chemical industry and is currently managing two ISO-certified surface treatment production units in Gurgaon and Bhiwadi, Rajasthan.
Eager to learn and contribute to the rich cultural heritage of our country, she has been a volunteer guide at the National Museum, Janpath, New Delhi, since 2013.
Donning the various roles of an educator, an entrepreneur, a homemaker, and a mother, in her journey of almost six decades, Seema has always been enamoured by art, architecture, culture and nature.
In 2000, she learnt the venerated art form of Tanjore paintings, a defining moment which sparked in her a zeal to add a ‘golden touch’ to everything she admired.
She married the traditional with the contemporary, as she used gold foils, semi-precious stones and muck work to embellish not just Gods and Goddesses, but novel concepts.
Over two decades, she has made one painting a year and developed her art form with mixed media.
“Viraasat” is the artist’s tribute to the rich cultural heritage that we all have inherited over centuries …and a little piece of the artist’s own legacy.
