Sensex Rises 226 Pts, Nifty Advances To 18,860; Zee Enterprises Jumps 8%, HDFC Life, HDFC Gain
Domestic markets opened slightly higher on Tuesday tracking tepid global cues. BSE benchmark Sensex opened 67.48 points, or 0.11 per cent higher at 63,395.18, while broader NSE Nifty50 gained 22.65 points, or 0.12 per cent to open at 18,839.35.
By 9.50 am, Sensex rose 226.16 points, or 0.36 per cent to 63,553.86, and Nifty50 was up 43.75 points, or 0.23 per cent to trade at 18,860.45.
Broader markets were outperforming key indices, as Nifty Midcap Select spurt 0.96 per cent, Nifty Midcap 100 gained 0.86 per cent, and Nifty Midcap 150 rose 0.84 per cent.
Sectorally, the media index gained 1.54 per cent, Nifty realty jumped 0.95 per cent, and Nifty Financial Services 25/50 climbed 0.62 per cent. Only metal, pharma, and healthcare index were trading in red at the time of writing.
HDFC Life was the top gainer at this hour, up over 2 per cent, after HDFC got the Competition Commission of India’s nod to hold up to 50 per cent stake in the company.
PowerGrid, HDFC, UltraTech Cement, L&T, Wipro, Hindustan Unilever, Tech Mahindra, Britannia, SBI Life, and Adani Enterprises were the other top performing stocks at this hour.
On the other hand, JSW Steel, Divis Lab, Hindalco, Apollo Hospital, Cipla, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Eicher Motor, Grasim, NTPC, and Nestle India were the top losing stocks in the morning trade.
Zee Enterprises jumped 7.85 per cent to trade at Rs 186.95 after SAT agreed to hear the company’s plea over the Sebi order on June 26.
