Sensex Slips 221 Pts, Nifty Down To 19,527; Adani Wilmar Tanks 3% On Stake Sale Report
Domestic equities opened lower on Wednesday on the second day of the ongoing RBI MPC meet. BSE benchmark Sensex opened at 65,810.96, down 35.54 points from its previous close, while broader NSE Nifty 50 started at 19,578.80, slipping around 8 points from its previous close.
By 9.30 am, Sensex slipped 221.87 points, or 0.34 per cent to 65,624.63, and Nifty50 fell 44.25 points, or 0.23 per cent to 19,526.60.
Broader markets also extended losses, but were largely mixed, as Nifty 100, Nifty 200 and Nifty Midcap Select fell 0.11 per cent each, Nifty Microcap 250 rose 0.30 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 50 gained 0.23 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 100 climbed 0.22 per cent.
Sectorally, Nifty Pharma gained 0.69 per cent, Nifty Consumer Durables climbed 0.53 per cent, Nifty Media rose 0.33 per cent, while Nifty IT slipped 0.49 per cent, realty slipped 0.28 per cent, and private bank fell 0.25 per cent.
Adani Wilmar tanked over 3.32 per cent to trade at Rs 379.90 on NSE, after reports stated that Adani Enterprises is weighing selling 44 per cent stake in the company.
Hindustan Unilever, Maruti Suzuki, Reliance Industries, TCS, HCL Tech, Apollo Hospital, Wipro, L&T, Axis Bank, Hero MotoCorp, ITC, and HDFC Bank were the top losers in the opening session.
SBI Life, Dr Reddys, Coal India, Sun Pharma, Power Grid, Britannia, Titan, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Life, BPCL, NTPC, and ONGC were the top gainers.
