HDFC Bank Pushes Sensex Past 80k Mark; Nifty Records New High At 24,307
Indian benchmark indices soared to new highs at open on Wednesday, with Sensex breaching the 80k mark for the first time and reaching its lifetime high at 80,074 points, while the Nifty50 index surged 169 points, recording its fresh high at 24,292.
The index heavyweight HDFC Bank was the top gainer on Sensex, recording its new high at Rs 1,791.90. The gainer list on Sensex was followed by Kotak Bank, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv and M&M, while Tech Mahindra, TCS, Sun Pharma, Infosys and Bharti Airtel led the losses.
On the NSE, Britannia, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank were among the top leaders whereas Tata Motors and Ultratech Cement were among those that led losses.
In broader indices, the MidCap index rose by 0.53 per cent and the SmallCap index gained over 0.68 per cent, reflecting optimism in the market.
Sectorally, all but the Nifty IT index traded with gains, with Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Private Bank, Nifty FMCG and Nifty Metal among top gainers.
