RBI gets bomb threat in Russian, mail claims will blow up bank
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Mumbai received a bomb threat email on Friday, reports news agency ANI. A case has been filed against an unknown individual in connection with the threat, and an investigation is underway.
The threatening email, written in Russian, was received on the RBI’s official website. It warned of a planned explosion at the bank.
“A threatening email was received on the official website of the Reserve Bank of India. The email was in Russian language, warned to blow up the bank. A case has been registered against an unknown accused in Mata Ramabai Marg (MRA Marg) police station. Investigation into the matter is underway,” Zone 1 DCP, Mumbai Police said.
Delhi schools get bomb threat
In a separate incident on the same day, bomb threats were emailed to more than six prominent schools in Delhi, prompting immediate security measures.
The affected schools included Bhatnagar Public School in Paschim Vihar, Cambridge School in Srinivaspuri, Delhi Public School in East of Kailash, Delhi Public School in Defence Colony, Delhi Police Public School in Safdarjung Enclave, and Venkatesh Public School in Rohini.
Both the Delhi Fire Brigade and police swiftly responded, conducting thorough searches to ensure the safety of students and staff. After a detailed inspection, no suspicious items were found.
This comes after more than 40 schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email on December 8, demanding a ransom of $30,000.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi criticized the central government, accusing the BJP-led administration of failing in its primary responsibility of ensuring security. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that the people of Delhi had never experienced such a deteriorating law and order situation.
On November 19, the Delhi High Court directed the Delhi Government and Delhi Police to create a comprehensive action plan, including a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for handling bomb threats and similar emergencies. The court has set a deadline of eight weeks for the completion of these measures.
