Are we entering a dangerous new phase of climate change?

Prof Anjal Prakash, clinical associate professor (research) and research director at ISB’s Bharti Institute of Public Policy, has been selected as lead author for the prestigious special report on climate change and cities.

He is one of the four Indians in the group of 150 global climate experts. The special report will be a part of the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) seventh assessment cycle.

Set up in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organisation and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the IPCC is a UN body for assessing the science related to climate change and provides regular assessments of the scientific basis of climate change, its impact and future risk, and options for adaptation and mitigation.

The seventh assessment of the IPCC formally began in July 2023 at the panel’s 43rd session held in Nairobi, Kenya. Prakash has published more than 34 research papers and has co-edited nine books and 29 book chapters.
