Calcutta High Court Orders CBI Probe Into Hanskhali Rape-Murder
Calcutta High Court on Tuesday reserved an order seeking a CBI probe into the rape and death of a 14-year-old in Nadia district’s Hashkhali area.
The court has asked the police to hand over the case to CBI. The court said in its order that the case should be taken over by the central agency for “fair investigation into the matter and to instill confidence in the family members of the victim and also the residents of the locality and the state.”
Furthermore, it has asked the state to ensure that complete protection is provided to the witnesses and family of the victim. It also highlighted serious lapses by the Bengal Police in their probe. It pointed out that the police did not videotape the witness statements as is the requirement as per the law.
