Filmfare Awards 2023: ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, ‘Badhaai Do’ Win Big; Alia Bhatt Takes Home Best Actress Title; Rajkummar Rao Bags Best Actor

It was a starry affair on the stage of the Filmfare Awards 2023.

The star-studded night saw the who’s who of the industry attended the prestigious gala to honour the makers and artistes in the Hindi film industry.

Salman Khan added his charm to the 68th edition of the Filmfare Awards with his hosting talents. He was accompanied by actor Maniesh Paul. B-town celebrities Alia Bhatt, Rekha, Kajol, Ayushmann Khurrana, Nora Fatehi, Janhvi Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Rajkummar Rao and many others, dressed their best on the red carpet.

Blockbuster Gangubai Kathiawadi’ won big on Thursday night, sweeping in 10 awards. The movie, which showed the rise of Gangubai in Kamathipua, won prestegious awards like Best Film, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female), Best Director, Best Dialogue, Best Choreography, Best Cinematography, Best Background Score, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design & RD Burman Award for Upcoming Music Talent.

‘Badhaai Do’ was not too far behind with six awards. ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’ also made a mark with four awards, including Best Music Album (Pritam), Best VFX, Best Sound Design, Best Lyrics (Kesariya) and Best Playback Singer (Male) for Arijit Singh’s Kesariya.

The Best Director was undoubtedly Sanjay Leela Bhansali for ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, and his 2022 film bagged the Best Film title.

It was a special night for Bhatt, who is known as one of Bollywood’s most prominent performers, too. She bagged the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female) award for her performance in ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’.

Actor Rajkummar Rao took home the Black Lady trophy for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) for his performance in ‘Badhaai Do’.

The Critics picked ‘Badhaai Do’ for Best Film (Critics’). While Sanjay Mishra won the Best Actor (Critics’) award for ‘Vadh’, it was a tie for the Best Actress (Critics’) between Bhumi Pednekar for ‘Badhaai Do’ and Tabu for ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’.

Veteran actor Prem Chopra was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Filmfare Awards is one of the oldest and most prominent film events in Hindi cinema. The awards were first introduced in 1954 and on Thursday it marked its 68th edition. The latest event saw many young artistes fulfilling their dreams of winning the iconic Black Lady.
