‘I reached my destination, India, and you too’: Chandrayaan-3 after soft-landing on Moon
In its first ‘reaction’ after Wednesday’s successful soft-landing on the Moon, Chandrayaan-3 ‘said’ that it was not just the mission alone, but the entire country that had reached the Moon with it.
“Chandrayaan-3 Mission: India, I reached my destination and you too !’ ISRO posted on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the lander module arrived at the South Pole of Earth’s only natural satellite.
“Chandrayaan-3 has successfully soft-landed on the moon! Congratulations, India!” ISRO added.
The lander module of Chandrayaan-3 – the mission was launched on July 14 – comprising of the lander (Vikram) and rover (Pragyaan) began its final descent towards the lunar surface at 5:45pm on Wednesday (as scheduled), and landed at the Moon at 6:04pm (again, as per the schedule).
How India made history with Chandrayaan-3
India made history in two ways. It is now only the fourth country to make a soft-landing on the Moon, joining the United States, Russia and China on the list.
Additionally, after the recent failure of Russia’s Luna-25, Chandrayaan-3 is now the first space mission to reach the Moon’s South Pole, its intended destination.
