India produced a phenomenal show against Japan in the Hockey World Cup classification tie at Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela on Thursday as the hosts won the contest 8-0. Abhishek and India skipper Harmanpreet Singh scored two goals each.

Both teams failed to break the deadlock until the halftime interval, before Mandeep Singh gave India the lead in the 32nd minute.

India then went to score three more goals in the same quarter. India maintained a similar approach in the final quarter and went to add another four goals. Vivek Sagar Prasad, former captain Manpreet Singh, and Sukhjeet Singh were the other scorers.
