Israel Eyes Cop 28 Finalization Of Green Power Deal With Jordan & UAE’s Masdar
Cop 28 is the planned venue to finalize a landmark Israel/UAE/Jordan green power-for-water deal which looks set to become part of a broader US-backed regional initiative. Progress would ease concerns on other bilateral energy plans.
Israel expects binding agreements to soon be signed with Jordan and the UAE on a landmark green power-for-water deal first reached in November 2021. During a visit to Abu Dhabi last month, Israeli Energy Minister Israel Katz met with senior Emirati and Jordanian officials including his Jordanian counterpart Saleh al-Kharabsheh and the UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Sultan al-Jaber.
According to an Israeli press release on the talks, “The parties discussed the desired ways to promote the final stages of the “Prosperity” regional initiative for the sale of 200 million cubic meters of desalinated seawater per year to Jordan, and the purchase of green electricity from a solar farm that the United Arab Emirates will build in Jordan.”
