Nicholas Pooran leaves Kavya Maran heartbroken; SRH owner’s crestfallen visuals dominate internet after LSG win

Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kavya Maran’s visuals going viral before, after and even during an SRH match is nothing new.

She is one of those passionate franchise owners who wears her heart on her sleeves and makes little attempt to hide her emotions. One look at Kavya, and you will know exactly where SRH is positioned in the match. The story has been no different in IPL 2025. Kavya was ecstatic when Ishan Kishan hammered his maiden IPL century to get SRH off to a winning start in the 18th season. But the story was exactly the opposite during SRH’s second match against Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday.

There were fireworks alright but not the kind SRH batters usually dish out. They have set the bar of scoring rate so high, especially playing at their home – Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad – that scoring at 9.5 runs an over seems “slow”. What seemed like a theory in mind, became practical when LSG came out to bat. They chased down SRH’s 191-run target in 16.1 overs with five wickets in the bank, with Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh going all guns blazing.

Kavya, generally used to see sixes flying off Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen’s bat, was left heartbroken by the same treatment meted to her SRH bowlers by Nicholas Pooran. The big-hitting West Indies batter technically killed the match in the powerplay itself with a blistering 70 off just 26 balls that included six sixes and as many boundaries. Even SRH captain Pat Cummins and India’s experienced pacer Mohammed Shami had no answer to the onslaught.

When Pooran was slaughtering the SRH bowlers, a camera was always focussed on Kavya. Hands on head, despair written all over her face; she was crestfallen. Mitchell Marsh was giving no respite from the other end. Coming in as an Impact Player at the top order, Marsh hit 52 off 31 balls, inflicting more damage on SRH bowlers and Kavya’s stress levels.

Mohammed Shami had Aiden Markram caught at mid-off off his fourth ball in Lucknow’s run-chase before Pooran and Marsh featured in a brisk 116-run stand off just 43 balls.

Pooran completed his half-century off 18 balls with a swept six against Adam Zampa as Lucknow sprinted to 96-1 in just seven overs.

Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins trapped Pooran leg before wicket with a full-pitched delivery from round the wicket before his countryman Marsh completed his 50 with back-to-back boundaries against him.

Marsh fell soon afterwards to Cummins when he holed out too long-on. Pant (15) sliced a catch to short third man and Ayush Badoni was spectacularly caught by Harshal Patel, who ran from mid-wicket and dived in time to pluck a brilliant catch.

Abdul Samad looked in a hurry when he smacked two sixes and two fours in his quickfire 22 off eight balls as Lucknow recorded its first win after losing to Delhi Capitals in their opener.
