Sensex Climbs 185 Pts At Open, Nifty Above 17,000; Metal, Realty Stocks Gain

Domestic markets opened slightly higher Tuesday tracking global cues, as key indices – Sensex and Nifty – both were over 0..30 per cent.

BSE benchmark Sensex opened 184.61 points, or 0.32 per cent higher to 57,838.47, while NSE’s Nifty50 climbed 52.50 points, or 0.31 per cent to open at 17,038.20.

Broader markets also extended the gains as Nifty Microcap 250 rose 0.32 per cent, while Nifty Midcap Select gained 0.22 per cent. Nifty 100 and Nifty 200 were up 0.17 per cent, while Nifty 500 rose 0.15 per cent. Meanwhile, Nifty Next 50 was down 0.12 per cent at open, and Nifty Smallcap 250 was almost flat.

Metal stocks were the top gainers at open as the sector climbed 0.54 per cent, followed by realty stocks at 0.49 per cent. Media stocks gained 0.34 per cent, while, IT sector climbed 0.31 per cent. Oil and gas stocks were the top losers at open as the sector plunged 0.35 per cent, followed by pharma stocks at 0.16 per cent.

Hindalco was among the top gainers in the opening trade as the stock climbed 2 per cent. Maruti Suzuki, ICICI Bank, M&M, UPL, HCL Tech, Reliance Industries were among the top gainers at open.

Meanwhile, BPCL, Tata Consumers, ONGC, Adani Ports, Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma, Asian Paints were the top losing stocks at open.
