Sensex Up 169 Pts, Nifty Trades At 19,463; Broader Markets Outperform
Domestic equities soared higher on Friday led by gains in IT stocks. BSE benchmark Sensex climbed 290.49 points, or 0.44 per cent to 65,849.38, while broader NSE Nifty50 rose 29.45 points, or 0.15 per cent to 19,413.75.
Broader markets also extended the rally, as except for India Vix, all indices opened in green. Nifty Smallcap 50 gained 0.73 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 250 rose 0.71 per cent, and Nifty Smallcap 100 climbed 0.70 per cent, and Nifty Midsmallcap gain 0.60 per cent.
By 9.30 am, Sensex pared off its early gains, and was up 168.84 points, or 0.26 per cent, and Nifty50 was up 49.75 points, or 0.26 per cent, trading at 19,463.50.
All sectors opened in green, as Nifty Realty jumped 1.23 per cent, Nifty IT gained 1.13 per cent, Nifty Metal gained 0.69 per cent, and Nifty PSU Bank climbed 0.65 per cent.
Infosys, Tata Motors, Wipro, TCS, LTIMindtree, Maruti, HDFC Bank, Divis Lab, Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finserv were the top gainers in the opening session.
Power Grid, NTPC, Bajaj Finance, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma, M&M, and Reliance were the top losing stocks.
Patanjali jumped 5 per cent to hit the upper circuit limit of Rs 1,223.35 on NSE after promoters said they will not exercise the oversubscription option of selling an additional 2 per cent stake.
